UK Patient Lily Bailey Shares Her journey of Artificial Heart Transplant by Dr Sandeep Attawar

My name is Lily Bailey I grew up as a well-rounded girl in a somewhat typical UK family. In a family of four members, my father is a high-tech engineer-turned-businessman. My mother is a dentist. We have an active and fun life. We traveled all over UK and some foreign countries. My brother and I received good grades. During my physical education (PE) on the first of school, “Two laps,” stated the trainer. I started running, while I reached halfway, I started feeling pain in my chest I had to bend down to breath. After my teacher’s suggestion my dad took me to his cardiologist, after my check up he informed me I would have a hole in my heart.

My dad, started looking for the best doctors, made an appointment with many cardiologists and they all ordered an echo, short for an echocardiogram. Cardiologist confirmed I was suffering from Havel Ischemic Heart Disease which can only be treated via a Heart Transplant surgery. But hospitals in UK have a very long waiting list to perform artificial heart transplant surgery. One of the biggest hurdles for my family was the financial affordability of this treatment.

Dr Sandeep Attawar patient review

My dad went online after recommendation from his friend who had undergone a medical treatment in India at a very affordable price. After searching on internet for best heart transplant surgeon he came across India cardiac surgery service that facilitates international patients in India, so we immediately got in touch with them through Email - dr.sandeepattawar@indiacardiacsurgerysite.com. The case manager of the company suggested Dr Sandeep Attawar Best Cardiac Surgeon at Global Hospital Chennai as my surgeon after going through my medical reports as the surgeon was the best in his field and treated many complex cases. My parents made a decision of traveling to India along my treatment and all the facilities were arranged by India cardiac surgery service.

When we arrived at the hospital in India, a repeat echocardiogram was performed to check the condition of the defect in my heart. My medical condition was complicated. Dr Sandeep Attawar explained i would need an immediate transplant and I was put on waiting list, but I did not had to wait very long as just after 3 days of our stay we received a call from hospital that heart was available and we had to rush to the hospitals to undergo pre transplant evaluation.  The on-call cardiac fellow came to speak to me. He was smiling and smelled strongly of espresso. He explained that there has been a possibility that the heart wouldn’t be a match. I’m so thankful for my life. I am so thankful for being taken so much of care by of Dr Sandeep Attawar. My parents sacrificed everything just to assist me. I had to live in India for some months following my transplant. But, I was able to celebrate Christmas with my relatives, and I will have many more to spend with them.
